Child Care Subsidy

The Child Care Subsidy is a payment from the Australian Government that helps you with the cost of approved child care.

You can get the Child Care Subsidy if you are a parent, foster parent or grandparent with a child in your care who is attending child care services approved by, or registered with, the Government.

You can get the Child Care Subsidy, if you or your partner, meet all of the following:

  • care for your child at least 2 nights per fortnight, or have 14% care
  • are liable for fees for care provided at an approved child care service
  • meet the residency rules

Your child must also meet the immunisation requirements.

The amount of Child Care Subsidy you can get depends on your circumstances:

Once you apply and are assessed, if you are eligible, you will be given a Child Care Subsidy percentage and a number of hours of care that the percentage is calculated on.  This will be forward to your childcare provider to utilise.

Any subsidy that is due is paid directly to the childcare provider to reduce the fees you pay.

*You must register using a myGov account linked to Centrelink account to obtain the Childcare Subsidy.  If you don’t have a myGov account or a Centrelink online account you’ll need to set them up before enrolling your child.
